Mr. Matt Froese and I are working on re-launching our ill-fated site of 2009 known as Addicted Gamer. Writing about games is the best type of writing that exists, and we’ve been longing for the opportunity to put the site back together. I will return to my post as Senior Editor and work on building contacts and getting a few other folks to contribute to our literary wonder. Matt is currently attempting a re-design to bring copious amounts of visual eroticism to the site and give it a fresh look.

One thing we’ll need for the site is a handful of folks who want to contribute things. It’s not important whether you do something regular, something occasional or even just a pop-in visitation once in a while – we just want some points of view. Matt is mainly a PC geek and I spend time all warm and cozy with my 360, so those who fancy the supple touch of other consoles are in high demand. It is called “Addicted Gamer,” after all. We must speak to all areas of the industry.

Being that we’re totally nerds, we want to take an approach that encompasses all elements of gaming – not just the games themselves. There are infinity billion websites out there rehashing press releases and providing “game news” that isn’t particularly interesting or original. Few sites cover things like posters, interesting game art, rad figurines and Andrew Ryan golf club replicas. If it’s game-related, it’s cool with us, and we want to share. We’re also way informal, because to us, being all “professional” about delivering game news and info means being stuffy and uninteresting.

So, do you want to write for us?

Yes?

What? You have questions?

Will you get paid?

Of course not, you greedy ass! We don’t have any money. All we have is awesomeness and the chance to share your words with a minimal (but admittedly growing) base of readers.

Do you get to come up with your own topics/ideas?

Of course! I don’t have time to assign topics and ideas to people all the time. I have a hard enough time coming up with my own topics and ideas. I’m certainly not going to donate them to you.

How do you contact me?

Email me at jeff [at] addictedgamer.net if you are interested. It’s going to be fetch. (There you go, Lacey Chabert)

Borderlands is a huge game. Not just in terms of its environment, its customization possibilities, its weapons or the way it allows each gamer to play their own way, but in the length of time it takes to get through it and unlock all the possible achievements. There is simply a ton to do, and a ton of achievements to unlock along the way. While many are story related, many are not, and a few can be a little puzzling at first when it comes to figuring out how to unlock them.

Let’s take a look at some of the achievements in Borderlands that give people trouble…

You’re on a boat!
I bet you never thought you’d be here.

Ahhh, thank you SNL. In the area Treacher’s Landing, there is a party boat hidden in an area you don’t otherwise have any reason to visit. Simply going to the boat and jumping aboard will give you the achievement. The hidden area is on the right side of the map. If you look at the area’s map, you can see a dock sticking out on the right all by itself. That’s where you need to be. You’ll have to navigate around a tall land mass and locate the boat, which is covered with party lights and silly colors.

My Brother is an Italian Plumber
Kill an enemy by stomping on its head

This is a silly one because it’s something you wouldn’t really consider doing if not for the achievement. The Mario reference makes it all worthwhile, though. What you have to do is kill an enemy by jumping on it. Yes – jumping on an enemy actually hurts them a little bit.

The easiest way to do this is with a pup skag. Shoot it carefully until it’s very near death, then just hop on its head until it dies. This won’t be the easiest thing to do because the game is an FPS, but it should only take a few hops to finish off the weak little pup and you’ll have your points.

Rootinest, Tootinest, Shootinest
Kill 5 Rakk in under 10 seconds

There are plenty of ways to do this, but my favorite is by almost sacrificing yourself. In the Arid Badlands, there is a hilltop area (behind the submachine gun scavenge place) where a bunch of rakk will swarm in on you. If you are in one of Scooter’s cars, the rakk will destroy the car almost instantly with their group attack. When the car explodes, it’s very likely to take out at least 5 rakk all at once because of their very low health. You’ll come close to death yourself… but you know, big deal….

I first got this achievement by accident doing the above, and have since done it many more times.

Made in Fyrestone
Complete all missions in the Arid Badlands

44 missions are required for this achievement. The easiest ones to neglect are the Claptrap rescues. Here are the ones that need completed to unlock this achievement:

1. Leaving Fyrestone
2. Claptrap Rescue
3. Get the Flock out of Here

Dragon Age: Origins is an epic BioWare game. For years, few games have consumed me the way Dragon Age has eaten the past several weeks of my life. Having invested 120+ hours over several playthroughs and having nabbed all but one achievement (which is rumored to be glitched), I feel confident in giving suggestions for how to nab the many achievements available in the game. There are a good many, some of which will require mad amounts of time, but with the right resources they are all attainable no matter what your skill level.

Since there are an infinite number of ways to play the game, tailor your character and progress through the story, any suggestions on this page are by no means the ONLY way to get an achievement. Having played the game with every character type and having seen the story from each angle, I will merely suggest routes by which I unlocked the points myself. If you have a suggestion to add or a different/better/easier way to unlock something, please let me know via the comments and I’ll toss it in the post.

**There will be some spoiler stuff within this list, so be aware.**

Last of Your Line	10
Completed the Human Noble origin story
Each character type has an origin story. First you pick your race – human, dwarf or elf – then you pick a class. The human noble is the first of six options. If there are certain class combinations you don’t wish to play the entire game with, that’s okay, you can do the origin story then quit. Each origin story takes around an hour (some less, some a bit more) and completes when you arrive with Duncan at Ostagar.

	Corrupted	10
Completed the Dalish Elf origin story
Arrive at Ostagar with Duncan.

	Conscripted	10
Completed the City Elf origin story
Arrive at Ostagar with Duncan.

	Harrowed	10
Completed the Magi origin story
Arrive at Ostagar with Duncan.

	Casteless	10
Completed the Dwarf Commoner origin story
Arrive at Ostagar with Duncan.

	Kinslayer	10
Completed the Dwarf Noble origin story
Arrive at Ostagar with Duncan.

	Last of the Wardens	20
Completed Ostagar
Ostagar is the first mission area outside of the origin story. If you play the game, this one will unlock naturally as it is a story-related quest. No real strategy here. Since it’s the first part, it’s easy and will end quickly.

	Standard-Bearer	20
Used the Grey Warden treaties to recruit all possible allies
This is story-related. The point of the bulk of the game is to recruit allies using these treaties. The four main Blight quests deal with the treaties, and completing each one will lead you to this achievement. Each location you travel to has different groups you can ally with and recruit (for example, at the Circle Tower, you can side with the mages or the Templars. In the Brecilian Forest, you can side with the elves or the werewolves). There are four treaties to accumulate – Circle Tower, Brecilian Forest, Redcliffe and Orzammar. Since 80% of the game is working towards getting these allies, that’s all that’s worth saying right here. If you have specific questions about anything quest-related, post in the comments.

	Hero of Redcliffe	20
Completed “The Arl of Redcliffe”
This is one of the quests en route to assembling your army of allies. You can’t miss it as it is a story requirement. It will be unlocked after you seek the Urn of Sacred Ashes and handle the situation with Arl Eamon.

Rabble-Rouser	20
Completed “The Landsmeet”
The Landsmeet occurs late in the game, after you acquire all allies and Eamon moves to Denerim. Another story-based achievement that you can’t miss.

	Mercenary	20
Complete 15 job-board quests
Job board quests can be found in Redcliffe Village, Denerim, Lake Calenhad Docks and Lothering. They come in various forms – Chantry board quests, Mages Collective quests, Blackstone Irregulars quests, Antevan Crows quests and Favors for Interested Parties. There are plenty more than 15 available and if you aim to complete as many as possible, the achievement will unlock when you’re about half done with everything you can possibly do. Some are considered illegal and shady, but that fact doesn’t have any bearing on anything, so it’s no big deal. They’re a good way to get nice rewards, level up and investigate new areas.

	Recruiter	25
Across all playthroughs, recruited all party members
You can do this in one playthrough if you hit all the right spots. The characters you need to recruit are:
Dog – Comes to you after the Mabari quest in Ostagar, unless you play as a human noble, where you get him right off the bat.
Sten – Found in a cage in Lothering. Convince the Chantry priest to free him.
Leliana – Found in the bar in Lothering. She offers to come with you after a fight.
Morrigan – Comes with you from the Kocari Wilds.
Wynne – A mage in the Circle Tower. Will come with you if you don’t side with the Templars.
Allistair – Unavoidable, comes with you after Ostagar.
Zevran – The assassin sent by Loghain, he will come with you after your fight if you choose not to kill him.
Oghren – A badass dwarf, also unavoidable. He comes with you on The Anvil of the Void quest in Orzammar.
Loghain – Can join your party after The Landsmeet if you let him live. If you accept him, Allistair will leave your party for the rest of the game.
Shale does not count toward this achievement as she is from the “Stone Prisoner” DLC. She is, however, awesome.

	Hopelessly Romantic	25
Across all playthroughs, experienced all possible romances
There are four possible romances – with Allistair, Leliana, Morrigan and Zevran.
Speaking with each character as much as possible, and not being a douche when talking to them, will add approval points. When you look at each character in your menu screen, an approval bar appears right underneath their picture, showing what they think of you. Gifts can also be given from the backpack to characters. Certain gifts will please characters more than others and can really boost approval.

Some romances are more difficult than others to unlock. Romances can only be started in camp, though you can speak with characters, build your approval and give gifts anywhere. See the individual achievements for romancing each character below for more specifics. Keep in mind nothing is cut and dry with romances. Think about the characters and interact with them as you would in reality. There are guidelines and advice available in this guide that will help with each person, but in Dragon Age, nothing operates exactly the same for everyone.

If you’re really stuck, Xbox360Achievements.org created a really good romance guide that may offer some help.

	Perfectionist	50
Across all playthroughs, discovered all possible endings

There are four endings – You accept Morrigan’s ritual and stay alive, you sacrifice yourself, Allistair sacrifices himself, Loghain sacrifices himself.
In order to get Allistair or Loghain to sacrifice themselves, you have to tell Riordan that you don’t intend to sacrifice yourself for this during the conversation prior to the final battle, right before you speak to Morrigan about her ritual. Allistair or Loghain (depending on which one is still with you) will say they’ll take the final blow when you decide not to. They will confirm this with you after you defeat the archdemon, giving you one last opportunity to change your mind and decide the ending.

Obviously, this takes several playthroughs, as Loghain and Allistair can’t both be with you at the end, and you can’t accept Morrigan’s offer and still sacrifice someone. Keep in mind if you deny Morrigan, she leaves, and you won’t have her for the final battle.

	Educated	15
Used a tome to improve the main character’s attributes, talents, spells, or skills
Tomes can be found all over and can be bought from stores. Just buy any tome and use it, and you get this achievement.

	Magic Sympathizer	20
Sided with the mages in “Broken Circle”
As you go through the Circle Tower, you’ll enter the Fade, where you ought to visit every possible area on the Fade Map for a future achievement. When you leave, you’ll make your final decision on whether to side with the Templars or the mages. Siding with the mages gets you this achievement and keeps Wynne with you. You’ll have a boss fight and it will unlock, making the mages your ally and fulfilling a treaty.

	Annulment Invoker	20
Sided with the templars in “Broken Circle”
The opposite of the previous achievement, you side with the Templars here and wipe out the mages – including Wynne. You can always save the game, do this, then re-load and side with the mages (or vice versa) if you want to get them both on one playthrough. That goes for all other alliance decisions, too.

	Slayer	20
Sided with the werewolves in “Nature of the Beast”
The elves send you on a quest to kill the lead werewolf, gaining the elves as allies. If you instead side with the werewolves, they’ll wipe out the elves and you’ll gain them as allies.

	Poacher	20
Sided with the elves in “Nature of the Beast”
You wipe out the werewolves or convince Zathrian to break their curse, turning them back into people. You gain the elves as allies.

	Sacrilegious	20
Sided with the Cult of Andraste in “The Urn Of Sacred Ashes”
These are the crazy folks that want you to dump blood into Andraste’s ashes. If you do, Leliana will fight you to the death and the cult will be pleased. If you don’t… you get the next achievement.

	Ceremonialist	20
Defied the Cult of Andraste in “The Urn of Sacred Ashes”
When you leave the ashes without having defiled them, the cult will attack you. It’s not much of a fight, making this another easy situation where you can save, make one decision, load, then make the other.

	Bhelen’s Ally	20
Sided with Bhelen in “A Paragon of Her Kind”
Your escapades in Orzammar depend on which person you side with for the throne. Bhelen is one option, Harrowmont is the other. Bhelen will have you show some promissory notes to a few nobles and turn them against Harrowmont. If you choose Harrowmont, you’ll have to fight in the Provings. From that point on, the quests are the same regardless of which person you side with – you’re just aiming your support in one direction or the other.

You’re given a last-minute opportunity to change your mind and decide Behlen or Harrowmont after coming back from the Anvil of the Void, regardless of what you did earlier, which is really where the achievement kicks in. Once someone is crowned king, you’ll get the appropriate achievement.

	Harrowmont’s Ally	20
Sided with Harrowmont in “A Paragon of Her Kind”
See Behlen’s Ally above.

	Liberator	20
Destroyed the Anvil of the Void
Finding the Anvil of the Void is the third part of the quests given by Behlen or Harrowmont. You’re in search of the paragon Branka. Once you reach the Anvil, you speak with paragon Caradin and have the option of preserving or destroying the device. Destroying it will cause a fight with Branka and leads to this achievement, preserving it will cause a fight with Caridin and leads to the Pragmatist achievement. Either way, you gain the support of a paragon and are fashioned a crown to give to whoever you decide should be king back in Orzammar. Preserving the Anvil gives you golem support during the final battle, which can be helpful… though it’s the “evil” decision of the two.

	Pragmatist	20
Preserved the Anvil of the Void
See Liberator above.

	Heavy Hitter	10
Main character inflicted 250 damage with a single hit
There’s a lot of ways to do this one. Note that this has to be a single hit on a single target, not a total of 250 points dished out from one attack.

I achieved this first with a Warrior. I recommend being at least level 15, with a good many points being attributed to Strength and Willpower when leveling up, Berserker skill learned with Final Blow power and a good two-handed weapon like the Chasind Maul that has high damage and can support some extra runes for added power. Activate it all and you’ll dish out over 250 points every time.

Another popular strategy is to play as a rogue and max out archery skills. Get the Pinning Shot and Arrow of Slaying and you’ll be doing double the required damage.

As a mage, max out your magic and use Walking Virulent Bomb.

	Bloodied	10
Completed an origin story without the main character ever falling in battle
This is pretty easy and I’d imagine opens for most people naturally. The origin stories are simple and have minimal combat. If you just don’t let your main character die at all, this will open for you after the origin story finishes.

	Traveler	35
Set foot in every area in the game
The one achievement I still haven’t opened…

There are many reports that this achievement is glitched. The claim is that you have to set foot in every area in the game to unlock it. Some people say that means every house, every shop, every everything. Others claim it only refers to things that apply a codex entry. I’m not sure what’s true.

I have read lists posted by people that have had this unlocked where they document every place they went while they played. Some end the game with a world traveled percentage of only 80% and have got this reward. My best completion percentage was 97% and it’s yet to unlock for me. I’ve spent time doing every single job board quest, every side quest and ensuring I went into every door, shop and house on the map. I’ve looked at other people’s lists of where they went to unlock it and made sure I visited everything. Over 30 hours of play has been dedicated to this achievement alone, but it still hasn’t opened.

If you have any more new tips, please let everyone know via the comments.

	Master of Arms	25
Main character achieved level 20 as a warrior
Reach level 20 as a warrior. Just keep playing, do as many side quests and job board jobs as you can and it’ll get there before the game ends. I’ve reached level 22 before the end battle just by playing, with no exploits.

There is a leveling glitch for those who don’t want to play the whole game as a certain class. In Ostagar, you are given the quest to go collect three vials of darkspawn blood from the Wilds, as well as the documents that Flemeth has. Go on that quest, collect the darkspawn blood and return to Duncan without the Warden documents. You’ll be able to choose the dialogue option that says you have the vials but not the treaties. Duncan will tell you to go back and find them. Start the conversation again, tell him the same thing, and keep repeating that process. After about 15 minutes of this you’ll be at level 20. Use X to skip the scenes and it’ll go much faster.

It is important to note that each time you level up, you have to go into the level up screen and use your points and attribute your skills. If you don’t, you won’t unlock the achievement when you get to level 20. And make sure you stop when you get to 20. If you go to 21 and didn’t use your points, you’re screwed.

This is also a great way to get a maxed out character at the very beginning of the game if you’re a sissy and want to make the game really easy

	Shadow	25
Main character achieved level 20 as a rogue
See Master of Arms above.

	Archmage	25
Main character achieved level 20 as a mage
See Master of Arms above.

	Pilgrim	10
Completed a Chanter’s Board quest
Just do one quest from the Chantry board. You’ll first be given this opportunity in Lothering.

	Grey Warden	20
Killed 100 darkspawn
Will come naturally as you play. This carries over to all playthroughs so don’t go out of your way trying to get it. Even so, I got all the way over 1,000 kills during my first game.

Master Warden	25
Killed 500 darkspawn

	Blight-Queller	25
Killed 1000 darkspawn
Just keep killing.

	Tinkerer	10
Crafted an item
Learn basic herbalism or trap making, and make a potion or trap. Boom, achievement. You don’t have to make anything special.

	Persuasive	10
Succeeded at five difficult Persuasion attempts
Build your coercion skill and this will be easier. You’re given lots of opportunities to persuade, so take all the chances you get. If your stats are high enough, you’ll win most.

	Silver Tongued	20
Succeeded at 25 difficult Persuasion attempts
See Persuasive above.

	Bully	10
Succeeded at five difficult Intimidate attempts
These don’t happen as often as Persuasion attempts, but follow the same logic. Be coercive, you’ll win them. They carry over between playthroughs.

	Menacing	20
Succeeded at 10 difficult Intimidate attempts
See Bully above.

	First Knight	10
Experienced the thrill of romance with Alistair
Allistair will only romance women. He’s a virgin and isn’t willing to give it up to just anyone. You’ll need his approval rating to be very high and he’ll take some convincing. As with the others, ask about his past and his life. Flirt with him. He’s cute and into you, but isn’t willing to give it up right away. He really likes statues as gifts, and his mother’s locket can be found on Eamon’s desk in Redcliffe Castle. Once you give him that, you’ll get a huge approval boost. His dialogues go on for a while so keep up with them. The first time you have the chance to offer him sex, he may even turn you down. Keep at it.

	Witch Gone Wild	10
Experienced the thrill of romance with Morrigan
Morrigan will only romance men, so you can’t do this with a female character. She’s not too tricky to get into bed if you go about it the right way. Her approval rating doesn’t need to be 100%, but it needs to be fairly high. If you’re sort of rude to other people that’ll help. Talk about her past and her upbringing, talk about Flemeth, give her grimoires and jewelry and she’ll like you. Bodahn sells a grimoire that she’s very interested in, and the crazy vendor in the Commons in Orzammar sells a mirror that she’ll love. Both initiate cutscenes, and the grimoire initiates a quest. Eventually she’ll start talking about how she cares for you and from that point it’s not difficult to move forward.

	Easy Lover	10
Experienced the thrill of romance with Zevran
For Zevran, you basically just have to talk to him through all his dialogues. The achievement called easy lover for a reason. He doesn’t take a lot of convincing and you will be able to get into his tent after only a little while. You can be male or female to initiate a romance with him. Flirt, compliment and otherwise seduce him that way. If you’ve got any gold or silver bars you can give as gifts, he’ll like those. He’s by far the easiest romance to unlock.

	Wine, Woman, and Song	10
Experienced the thrill of romance with Leliana
Leliana’s romance is difficult. There are conversation options that you can choose that will totally kill your chances of it ever happening. There’s no cut-and-dry time when it’s made available, and it seems to be glitchy. The internet is filled with people asking about her romance. Personally, when I unlocked it, it was well after I had given up on the idea of romancing her because I had followed several paths that others said make it impossible to romance her. Then, suddenly, it happened.

Here are some things I do know that will make romancing Leliana easier:
It’s best to have her as your only romance on the playthrough, or at least your first romance. Having a romance with someone else that you have to break up with in order to woo Leliana will throw off the string of conversations that lead to it.
Do her personal quest, which is brought on by asking her about the Bards in Orlais being assassins and spies. She’ll deny she was involved with that stuff, which opens up a quest once you’re attacked by someone who’s after her. Leliana lies.
Get her approval rating up all the way to 100%. For gifts, she loves anything dealing with Andraste.
Don’t defile Andraste’s ashes. She’ll attack you and you’ll have to kill her.
If you follow certain strings of conversation, she’ll eventually be the one that invites you to her tent. This post has the dialogue sequences that must be followed if you want to unlock her romance. The final one listed is the one that leads to her inviting you to her tent.

Now, many people have stated that after doing her personal mission, they went back to the camp and she began the conversation that starts with “I lied to you,” which is the one that leads to her romance. For me, that didn’t happen. Since I had not yet done the Urn of Sacred Ashes mission, she did not have that conversation with me until after we went through the Gauntlet and the Guardian revealed her past. Just something structural to keep in mind if you’re feeling trapped.

	Veteran	25
Main character learned a specialization
Specializations can be learned various ways. You can buy manuals at certain vendors, or have party members teach you. For instance, Leliana can teach you to become a Bard, Zevran can teach you to become an Assassin, Oghren can teach you Berserker, and Allistair can teach you to become a Templar. Each person has some sort of lesson to offer. Get your approval up and convince your fellows to teach you their skills, then when you earn a specialization point (Levels 7 and 14) you can learn them from the level up menu. Learn one and you get this achievement.

Elite	30
Main character learned two specializations
Learn a second specialization to get this one.

	Master of the Peak	25
Completed ”Soldier’s Peak” (Warden’s Keep DLC)
This achievement is awarded for finishing the Soldier’s Peak DLC. Just play through the mission and you’ll get it.

Rock and a Hard Place	25
Completed ”The Golem in Honnleath” (The Stone Prisoner DLC)
This achievement is awarded for finishing the Stone Prisoner DLC, which is Shale’s content that came free with most copies of the game. Just play through the mission and you’ll get it.

Secret Achievements

	A Dark Promise	50
Defeated the Archdemon and, through a dark ritual with Morrigan, spared your own life
Accept Morrigan’s ritual and finish the game.

	The Ultimate Sacrifice	50
The ultimate sacrifice was made in defense of Ferelden
Don’t accept Morrigan’s ritual and finish the game, sacrificing yourself. Sacrificing Allistair or Loghain doesn’t work.

	Dragonslayer	30
Defeated the dragon guarding the Urn of Sacred Ashes
This is the dragon that the cultists think is Andraste. Out in the open area there is a gong you can hit. Doing so calls down the dragon and starts the battle. It’s hard as hell and, with some configurations, downright impossible. Don’t feel too bad about switching your difficulty to Casual for this fight. Use fire resistant salves, have really strong characters with you and a mage for healing, and make sure people’s tactics are set to defense and everyone knows how to heal themselves. It’s a long, tough fight, but it is worth it.

Defender	20
Preserved the lives of half the troops at Denerim’s Gates in “The Final Battle”
During the final battle, you’re given command of your allies you recruited and can call on them to help you. Half of them still have to be alive when you reach the gates of Fort Drakon to unlock this achievement. It’s not all that difficult. Just only use them when/if you need them.

	Diabolist 25
Took advantage of Avernus’s research (Warden’s Keep DLC)
In the Warden’s Keep DLC, there is a jug of liquid you can drink before reaching Avernus. Drink it. You get an achievement. Doesn’t get much easier than that.

	Stone’s Lament	25
Completed ”A Golem’s Memories” (The Stone Prisoner DLC)
After speaking to Caridin in the Deep Roads, Shale has some memories of her past. She asks you to travel to a new place in the Deep Roads where she goes through a personal revelation. Finish the quest to get the achievement.

I’ve received a lot of positive feedback about my tips on completing Left 4 Dead 2 Achievements. Since I just acquired Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age: Origins yesterday, I figured I’d do one better and toss up lists for them as well. I’ve already finished the Modern Warfare 2 campaign and a number of the Spec Ops missions, so just with the other list, I’ll update tactics as I unlock them. And you, of course, can feel free to contribute.

Back in the Saddle	15
Help train the local militia.
This achievement and the many that follow it are all story achievements. Move through the campaign and you’ll unlock one after each mission up to the end.

Danger Close	15
Get hand picked for Shepherd’s elite squad.

Cold Shoulder	15
Infiltrate the snowy mountain side base.

Tag ‘em and bag ‘em	15
Find Rojas in the Favelas.

Royale with Cheese	15
Defend Burger Town.

Soap on a Rope	15
Storm the gulag.

Desperate Times	15
Execute the plan to help the Americans.

Whiskey Hotel	15
Take back Whiskey Hotel.

The Pawn	15
Assault Makarov’s safe house.

Out of the Frying Pan…	15
Complete the mission in the airplane graveyard.

For the Record	35
Complete the Single Player campaign on any difficulty.
Not much more to say about this one – just complete the game.

The Price of War	90
Complete the single player campaign on Hardened or Veteran Difficulty.
Modern Warfare 2 lets you get 315 total points for completing the missions, and thus the entire campaign, on Veteran difficulty. See the following achievements for which ones need done to get the points.

First Day of School	25
Complete ‘S.S.D.D’ and ‘Team Player’ on Veteran Difficulty.
SSDD really has no difficulty rating. You just play it like usual, then select Veteran at the end. Doing so will unlock a Veteran Completion for that level. Team Player is the first real level. If you have the skill to get through levels on Veteran, Team Player will be the least of your worries. The big thing to remember in all Veteran campaigns is to take your time and keep your eyes open. Any enemy has the chance to kill you, and fast. Pace yourself and work through each level checkpoint by checkpoint.

Black Diamond 25
Complete ‘Cliffhanger’ on Veteran Difficulty.
I have a hard time getting through this without alerting guards – not by my fault, but by Soap’s. Any time he snipes someone, they get alerted. If this happens to you, tuck yourself in a nook and just unload on people as they pop into your sight. Once you kill a pack of them, the alert ends. After the ambush it gets tough – Stick to Soap’s back as much as possible. He offers a good bit of cover fire and triggers events that keep you alive. Once you get to the end of the tarmac, just run like hell to the snow bank. It’s the only checkpoint between the hangar and the beginning of the snowmobile race, so it’s your goal.

Turistas	25
Complete ‘Takedown’ and ‘The Hornet’s Nest’ on Veteran Difficulty.

Red Dawn	25
Complete ‘Wolverines!’ and ‘Exodus’ on Veteran Difficulty.

Prisoner #627	25
Complete ‘The Only Easy Day… Was Yesterday’ and ‘The Gulag’ on Veteran Difficulty.

Ends Justify the Means	25
Complete ‘Contingency’ on Veteran Difficulty

Homecoming	25
Complete ‘Of Their Own Accord’, ‘Second Sun’, and ‘Whiskey Hotel’ on Veteran Difficulty.

Queen takes Rook 25
Complete ‘Loose Ends’ and ‘The Enemy of My Enemy’ on Veteran Difficulty.

Off the Grid 25
Complete ‘Just Like Old Times’ and ‘Endgame’ on Veteran Difficulty.

Pit Boss	10
Run The Pit in ‘S.S.D.D’ and finish with a final time under 30 seconds.

Ghost 10
Plant the C4 in ‘Cliffhanger’ without alerting or injuring anyone in the blizzard.
Get there without killing anyone or being seen. Not as easy as it sounds, but very doable. The bigger issue will be avoiding alerts when Soap snipes someone.

Colonel Sanderson	10
Kill 7 chickens in under 10 seconds in ‘The Hornet’s Nest’.
There are chickens in cages all over the place in this area. Try to empty out an area without killing too many in crossfire, and when the attack dies down, unload on the cages that contain the most chickens. Hitting 7 in 10 seconds isn’t tough, particularly if you target ones that contain 4-5 chickens per cage.

Gold Star	20
Earn 1 star in Special Ops.
The following few achievements are all about earning stars in spec ops mode. Each mission has its own requirements for earning stars, either based on difficulty or completion time. Do what you need to do to unlock them.

Hotel Bravo 20
Earn 4 stars in Special Ops.

Charlie On Our Six 20
Earn 8 stars in Special Ops.

It Goes to Eleven 20
Earn at least 1 star in 11 different Special Op missions.

Operational Asset 20
Earn all 3 stars in at least 5 different Special Op missions.

Blackjack 20
Earn 21 stars in Special Ops.

Honor Roll	20
Earn at least 1 star in each Special Op mission.

Operative	30
Earn all 3 stars in at least 10 different Special Op missions.

Specialist	30
Earn 30 stars in Special Ops.

Professional 30
Earn all 3 stars in at least 15 different Special Op missions.

Star 69	90
Earn 69 stars in Special Ops.
Get all available stars in spec ops mode.
This is nearly impossible. Nearly.

Downed but Not Out	10
Kill 4 enemies in a row while downed in Special Ops.

I’m the Juggernaut…	10
Kill a Juggernaut in Special Ops.
Some Special Ops missions have juggernauts – enemies who can’t be killed with bullets. You have to blow them up or stab them multiple times (3-4) to get them to die. Killing at least one will nearly be a requirement to complete particular Special Ops missions, so you’ll get this naturally. All it takes is one to unlock.

Ten plus foot-mobiles	10
Kill at least 10 enemies with one Predator missile in Single Player or Special Ops.
You have a couple occasions to use the AGM missile. This may happen in the campaign because the missile has a pretty fierce splash radius, but if not, one of the first Spec Ops campaigns makes this simple. Fire it off quickly as you’re being attacked, get a transport vehicle in the hit and you’re almost guaranteed 10 kills.

Unnecessary Roughness 10
Use a riot shield to beat down an enemy in Single Player or Special Ops.
During the Gulag, there are lots of riot shields. Grab one and push RS when near an enemy, just like you would to perform a knife kill. Instead, you’ll smack him with your shield. Achievement unlocked.

Knock-knock	10
Kill 4 enemies with 4 shots during a slow-mo breach in Single Player or Special Ops.
Any time you breach a door, you get a slow-motion entrance to the room that’s all blurry from the explosion. If you can take out four people in the room with four single shots, you’ll get this. Try using a pistol, otherwise it’s hard to control your shots to 4 single shots.

Some Like it Hot	10
Kill 6 enemies in a row using a thermal weapon in Single Player or Special Ops.
Another thing that’s not very difficult and will likely happen naturally as you’re using the thermal sniper rifle. Just snipe six people using the rifle. You have lots of opportunities here.

Two Birds with One Stone	10
Kill 2 enemies with a single bullet in Single Player or Special Ops.
Possible with most sniper rifles. I didn’t even know I did it when it unlocked, but after I already had it I noticed a few other occasions where I took out two enemies with one shot.

The Road Less Traveled 10
Collect 22 enemy intel items.
Grab the enemy laptops/intel around the campaign. There are 45 total and are easy to miss. On my first play-through, I totally forgot about them until right near the end and ended with 2/45.

Leave No Stone Unturned	10
Collect 45 enemy intel items.
Get all the enemy intel.

Drive By 10
Kill 20 enemies in a row while driving a vehicle in Single Player or Special Ops.
I achieved this during the boat mission at the end, as it was easier to hit people than the snowmobile driving, imo. Lots of boats come up beside you and you can easily gun down the enemies in them as they pass you. They contain more personnel than the snowmobiles too, which makes you get to 20 quicker.

The Harder They Fall	10
Kill 2 rappelling enemies in a row before they land on their feet in Single Player or Special Ops.
This is simple in Spec Ops mode where you traverse the bridge. Right off the bat, a bunch of guys rappel down onto the bridge from the sides. Pop two of them before they land and this will unlock.

Desperado	10
Kill 5 enemies in a row using 5 different weapons or attachments in Single Player or Special Ops.
This isn’t terribly difficult, particularly if you’re playing on Normal difficulty or below. If you’re in a fairly crowded area, simply shoot someone with your main gun, then shoot someone with your second gun, then find one on the ground that’s different and shoot someone with it, then find another different one, make another kill, another different gun, and another different kill. If your difficulty level isn’t up too high, you won’t find it as hard to run around picking up other weapons inbetween kills. Just be sure you don’t take out more than one person with a particular weapon and that you don’t repeat weapons before 5 kills are up. You can, however, use the same gun twice if it has an attachment – i.e. the normal fire and grenade attachment on many machine guns will both count.

Look Ma Two Hands	10
Kill 10 enemies in a row using akimbo weapons in Single Player or Special Ops.
Akimbo weapons, like desert eagles or mini uzis, are weapons where you can hold one in each hand and fire simultaneously. Favela has both double eagles and uzis, so it’s a good area to try this. Simply kill 10 people while using them and you’ll get the achievement. You don’t have to kill 10 with each hand, just 10 total.

No Rest For the Wary	10
Knife an enemy without him ever knowing you were there in Single Player or Special Ops.
Easy as pie – just stab an enemy from behind. You’ll likely do it dozens of times.

Three-some 10
Kill at least 3 enemies with a single shot from a grenade launcher in Single Player or Special Ops.
This opened up for me about twenty seconds into the game, when instructed to shoot the grenade launcher across the river at the enemies. If you don’t grab it there, the game presents to you numerous occasions when you can equip yourself with a gun that has a grenade attachment, and you always have frags in your pocket. Finding three enemies together isn’t particularly difficult so it shouldn’t take a lot of trial to get this.

This post will update as I earn the achievements in-game. Some achievements require no further explanation or strategy – but ones that do will have some tips/info listed below them. If you’ve completed one that I haven’t and would like to add your strategy, post it in the comments and I will add it to the list. Thanks, and good luck!

PRICE CHOPPER	20
Survive the Dead Center campaign.
This achievement is easily attainable by finishing the campaign on any difficulty setting.

	MIDNIGHT RIDER	20
Survive the Dark Carnival campaign.
This achievement is easily attainable by finishing the campaign on any difficulty setting.

	RAGIN’ CAJUN	20
Survive the Swamp Fever campaign.
This achievement is easily attainable by finishing the campaign on any difficulty setting.

	WEATHERMAN	20
Survive the Hard Rain campaign.
This achievement is easily attainable by finishing the campaign on any difficulty setting.

	BRIDGE BURNER	20
Survive the Parish campaign.
This achievement is easily attainable by finishing the campaign on any difficulty setting.

	STILL SOMETHING TO PROVE	35
Survive all campaigns on Expert.

	THE REAL DEAL	35
Survive a campaign on Expert skill with Realism mode enabled.

	CONFEDERACY OF CRUNCHES	30
Finish a campaign using only melee weapons.
Those who want to complete this quickly will try it on Easy difficulty. Dead Center is a good place to try it, since it only has four stages. Just keep swinging those melee weapons. Be careful that if you get incapacitated you stop attacking or you’ll end up firing an accidental shot with your pistols while on the ground.

	HEAD HONCHO	15
Decapitate 200 Infected with a melee weapon.
For this, your best bet is to grab a ninja sword or an axe and play your way through a scene using it as your sole weapon. Turn difficulty to easy if you are dying too much. Or, just be patient and eventually you will unlock this through normal play if you play enough.

	CLUB DEAD	15
Use every melee weapon to kill Common Infected.
This one is easy and will likely happen naturally as you play through each scenario. The weapons you need to use are: frying pan, katana, machete, nightstick, chainsaw, axe, crowbar, paddle bat.

	CHAIN OF COMMAND	15
Kill 100 Common Infected with the chainsaw.
As it says – kill 100 zombies with a chainsaw. You’ll have to go through several chainsaws to do so, as each one only allows you to kill a certain number of zombies with it.

	TANK BURGER	30
Kill a Tank with melee weapons.
Team up with humans for this one. The AI will almost always shoot the tank, and 100% of the damage has to come from melee weapons. If you don’t have four humans, kill the AI before trying this so you and your human pal can melee the beast. Attempting this at the Concert in Dark Carnival or the City Streets during Dead Center are good options, as the tank usually spawns near the beginning of both areas. Just take it down with only melee hits and it’ll unlock.

	SHOCK JOCK	30
Revive 10 dead Survivors with the defibrillator.
This will either come as you play, or you can mess with the system. The stage in Hard Rain where you return to the town always spawns a defib unit in the safe room. Have someone go out into the area, get killed, then go out and defib them back to life. You’ll then have to leave the game entirely (back to main menu) if you want it to count in your achievement list. Simply dying yourself and restarting will erase the action.

THE QUICK AND THE DEAD	30
Revive 10 incapacitated Survivors while under the speed-boosting effects of adrenaline.
The best strategy here is to keep an adrenaline shot on you at all times. When you see a teammate go down, stab yourself and go save them right away. Or, follow a similar procedure as in the Shock Jock achievement. Adrenaline shots often spawn in that same room, so you can always save a buddy with an adrenaline shot before letting them get incapped again and defibbing them back to life.

	ARMORY OF ONE	15
Deploy an ammo upgrade and have your team use it.
One of the easiest achievements in the game, especially in solo player. In many areas, there are ammo upgrades (incendiary bullets, frag bullets) that you can find and lay back down. Doing so will make everyone in your team pick them up, giving you the achievement. If using this with other live humans in multiplayer, ensure they all grab the ammo.

	BURNING SENSATION	15
Ignite 50 Common Infected with incendiary ammo.
Use the above tactic to equip your gun with incendiary ammo and start shooting. One place this can be often found is before the roller coaster in Dark Carnival. It’s also common during Dead Center.

	DISMEMBERMENT PLAN	20
Kill 15 Infected with a single grenade launcher blast.
The best time to do this is when a horde is coming. Or, if you are in a crowded area, throw a pipe bomb and then grenade launch at the zombies gathered around the bomb before it explodes. Or, toss a bile bomb then blast the horde with the grenade launcher.

	SEPTIC TANK	15
Use a bile bomb on a Tank.
You may take a hit, but it’s easy enough to chuck a bile bomb at a Tank before it hits you. Let it run your way and toss it on.

	CRASS MENAGERIE	20
Kill one of each Uncommon Infected.
Another achievement that will unlock naturally as you play through each scenario. You’ll have to kill a CEDA Worker (Hazmat Suit) in Dead Center, a Mud Man in Swamp Fever, a Riot cop in The Parish, a clown in Dark Carnival and a construction worker in Hard Rain.

DEAD IN THE WATER	20
Kill 10 swampy Mudmen while they are in the water.
All the uncommon infected Mudmen come from the swamp water, so you just have to shoot 10 of them before they leave the water. No special tactic, just be quick. Try the sniper rifle so you can shoot them before they leave the water.

	ROBBED ZOMBIE	15
Collect 10 vials of Boomer vomit from infected CEDA agents you have killed.
This will likely take a few plays through the scenario, but many CEDA uncommon infected drop boomer bile in Dead Center. Pick them up. There are more CEDA people during the first two stages than the latter two, so playing through the hotel and streets over and over should net you this pretty quickly.

	CL0WND	15
Honk the noses of 10 Clowns.
Easy enough to do, melee 10 clowns in the face with your gun. You’ll hear their nose honk. It’s charming.

	FRIED PIPER	15
Using a Molotov, burn a Clown leading at least 10 Common Infected.
A good time to do this is when the hordes are after you when you start the merry-go-round. As soon as you see a clown within a bunch of other zombies, chuck the molotov. You’re almost guaranteed to burn 10 zombies throwing a molotov into a crowd, so it’ll unlock.

	LEVEL A CHARGE	15
Kill a Charger with a melee weapon while they are charging.

	ACID REFLEX	15
Kill a Spitter before she is able to spit.
Just shoot it fast.

	A RIDE DENIED	15
Kill a Jockey within 2 seconds of it jumping on a Survivor.
Again, just shoot it fast.

	STACHE WHACKER	15
Prove you are faster than Moustachio.
In section four of Dark Carnival, there is a whack-a-mole game you can play where you shoot Moustachios as they pop up. Get a score of 42 to unlock the achievement. You won’t get it on one round, but you can keep continuing and your score will be aggregate.

	GONG SHOW	15
Prove you are stronger than Moustachio.
Also in section four of Dark Carnival, just a few seconds after you leave the safe room at the start, is a hammer strength game where you hit the platform and ring the bell. Grab an adrenaline shot and any melee weapon. Use the shot and slam the thing to ring the bell, giving yourself 15 points. There is often an adrenaline shot in the tent prior to the game.

	GUARDIN’ GNOME	30
Rescue Gnome Chompski from the Carnival.
In the second section of Dark Carnival, there is a target shooting range game. Start it up and get a score of 750 or more before the time runs out and you’ll be awarded a garden gnome as a prize. He comes out of a little prize box on the left of the game. You then have to keep him in your possession all the way through the end of the Dark Carnival story. You can drop him and shoot, but you must pick him back up and carry him the rest of the way. If you die at any point, it’s okay, because he’ll be in the safe room on the floor somewhere when you restart.
This is a challenging achievement. Playing on easy makes it easier, but the fact you won’t be able to shoot much of the time makes it tough. You can melee with the gnome, but it doesn’t do much damage and takes a good 5 hits to kill a zombie, so it’s more for knocking them out of the way while your pals gun them down.

	WING AND A PRAYER	30
Defend yourself at the crashed airliner without taking damage.

	SOB STORY	30
Navigate the sugar mill and reach the safe room without killing any Witches.
There are a good dozen witches after the sugar mill. You just have to get to the gas station without pissing them off. It’s not that hard – just run past them and don’t look back.

	VIOLENCE IN SILENCE	30
Navigate the impound lot and reach the cemetery safe room without tripping any alarms.
Move through the field with tons of alarm cars without setting any off. It’s not hard – just run through and get to the other side, then worry about the zombies from a safe angle when you get there.

	BRIDGE OVER TREBLED SLAUGHTER	30
Cross the bridge finale in less than three minutes.
Stay on the left-hand side of the bridge, keep a pipe bomb on hand for when it’s most needed, and avoid the tank. Beyond that, just run your ass off and hope for the best. If someone has a better strategy, please tell me.

	HEARTWARMER	20
In a Versus round, leave the saferoom to defibrillate a dead teammate.

	STRENGTH IN NUMBERS	15
Form a team and beat an enemy team in 4v4 Versus or Scavenge.

	QUALIFIED RIDE	15
As the Jockey, ride a Survivor for more than 12 seconds.
This isn’t terribly hard if you can nab someone while they’re separated from the rest of the group. Look for that one lone player who doesn’t mind going off on their own. I got it up on top of the bridge in the hotel map, while the rest of the team was way over in a room on the other end. It was more like 25 seconds before anyone came and pulled me off.

	BACK IN THE SADDLE	15
As the Jockey, ride the Survivors twice in a single life.
Lots of people get jockeys off of you by performing a melee hit instead of shooting. If you get meleed off, get to safety as fast as you can and you’ll be able to jump someone for a second ride.

RODE HARD, PUT AWAY WET	20
As the Jockey, ride a Survivor and steer them into a Spitter’s acid patch.
Easy to execute if you and another human are playing as infected. Just time your actions.

	GREAT EXPECTORATIONS	15
As the Spitter, hit every Survivor with a single acid patch.

A SPITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS	15
As the Spitter, spit on a Survivor being choked by a Smoker.
Easy to execute if you and another human are playing as infected. Just time your actions.

	SCATTERING RAM	20
As the Charger, bowl through the entire enemy team in a single charge.
One good place to try this – in the Motel map during Scavenge – when the team goes for the gas can in the back left corner. There’s the one that’s all alone in the busted hotel room by the stairs. If the whole team stays together, the little hallway before that room is a great place to find them all standing together, easily crushed. Also, in the Dead Center finale, there’s that gas can in the corner to the rear left of the race car where you can easily hit the whole team.

	MEAT TENDERIZER	20
As the Charger, grab a Survivor and smash them into the ground for a solid 15 seconds.
Just as with Qualified Ride, this isn’t that hard if you can just get someone alone. Find someone in an area near no other players and hammer away.

	LONG DISTANCE CARRIER	15
As the Charger, grab a Survivor and carry them over 80 feet.
If you charge someone, you’re going to run with them until you hit something. Simply charge them when you’ve got a good distance til you hit a wall. The motel parking lot is a good place for this. 80 feet isn’t all that long.

	BEAT THE RUSH	15
In a Survival round, get a medal only using melee weapons.
For this, you have to survive 4:00 to get the bronze medal, and only use melee weapons during that time. I achieved this on my first attempt by hiding in the small room behind the gas can in the back left corner behind the race car in Dead Center. I was playing alone. The AI teammates stood at the door to the little room and killed most everything while I stayed crouched up against the wall behind them. When one went down, I helped them up, and when a tank came I gave it a few hits with the Katana to assist – and it stayed concentrated on killing the AI. I ended up lasting 4:58 and getting the achievement.

	HUNTING PARTY	15
Win a game of Scavenge.
Just do it.

	GAS GUZZLER	20
Collect 100 gas cans in Scavenge.
Keep playing until you have collected 100 – no magic here.

	CACHE AND CARRY	20
Collect 15 gas cans in a single Scavenge round.
The difficulty of this achievement all depends on the skill of your team and the skill of your opposing team. It’s very doable – I recommend the hotel map.

	SCAVENGE HUNT	15
Stop the enemy team from collecting any gas cans during a Scavenge round.
Take out the entire enemy team before they can get any cans poured. I’ve seen it happen several times, both on the hotel and swamp maps.

	FUEL CRISIS	15
Make a Survivor drop a gas can during overtime.
In scavenge, if the time runs out and one player on the offensive team is holding a gas can, the game won’t end until that player either pours it in the tank, or an infected traps them and makes them drop it. Be the infected.

GAS SHORTAGE	20
Cause 25 gas can drops as a Special Infected.
And then do it 25 times!

I certainly didn’t get as much accomplished today as I would like to have, particularly since I got up at 5:30am. It’s amazing how some days can get away from you.

Anywho, here are links to some fascinating topics to behold over at Addicted Gamer:

I have to admit, I once wanted to buy the domain name WouldYouKindly.com and turn it into a game site. It would have guaranteed me title as the COOLEST guy ever.

I was so pissed when I found out it was already owned and being used as a Bioshock/Fallout/Gaming page. Fortunately for the people who run it, they’re pretty cool, and now I’ve left some of my animosity behind. I’m no longer mad.

Just bitter.

Anywho, for those of you wandering aimlessly around the Scrapyard in Fallout 3′s DLC “The Pitt,” searching for steel ingots, help is here. The Would You Kindly crew have stayed up late, sucking down irradiated bottles of Nuka Cola for the benefit of you, weary traveler. Not only will they tell you where they all are, they’ll show you photos. Click here for the walkthrough.

And while we’re on the subject of Fallout, as we have been quite a bit lately, check out my post at Addicted Gamer about the new Fallout title in the works.

There is still a glitch that allows you to get this real easy.

This may be common knowledge, but I just found out about it – and I’ve logged more hours in Fallout 3 than anyone should. If I missed it, perhaps you have too. Bagging nearly every achievement available, Silver-Tongued devil was something I had yet to obtain. I made it my goal for my current playthrough, as well as getting to level 20 with neutral karma.

Originally, there were several speech challenge glitches that helped people bag this achievement on the quick. Bethesda patched them all, but one remains. I missed it during all my hours of play, and hey, maybe you have, too. I happened upon it after already getting 45 legitimate speech challenge wins, so I don’t feel like too big of a wussy cheater – though I would in no way judge your exploitation of said glitch. If Bethesda leaves it in the game, accessible without any special cheats, by all means, you have the right to take advantage.

Little Lamplight is the place, and Knock Knock is the person. You should be able to find her right by the entrance when you first go there, hanging around her twin brother Knick Knack. Tell her you want to hear her joke, go through the joke, then tell her it was hilarious. Speech challenge won (it’s a horrible joke). You can do this over and over again – same joke, same lie about its hilariousness, same speech challenge won.

Quit blowing into your old NES like a ninny! Save your breath! There’s a new gadget in town that will change your nostalgic inner child’s life.

Is this not the best gadget of all time? Buy.com is currently selling this for a measly $36.99 with free shipping. If I didn’t just get laid off, this would be on its way to my home without question.

It allows you to play both NES and SNES games on the same dock. The SAME DOCK, MAN! It’s really small, designed better than back in the day so it won’t overheat and you’ll actually be able to play the games, and won’t require you to use any of the archaic tricks like huffing and puffing on your game’s chipboard to turn on. Not that doing that ever actually solved anything…

It even works on Japanese import titles, comes with two controllers and all the cords, and is ready to go.

Now, if they’d just come out with a Sega Genesis / Saturn / Dreamcast console, I’d soil myself heavily.
